After seven days off for a quick stop at home to celebrate the holidays with family, the Prince Albert Raiders are back on the road. The Raiders will end September with a home and home against the Swift Current Broncos, first on the road on Saturday, and back home on Monday.

This is the fourth of six times this season the Raiders and Broncos will do battle, and the final time in Swift Current. The Raiders have won all three matchups so far, first on Oct. 24 in Prince Albert 4-0, then again in Swift Current 5-0 on Oct. 25, and most recently a 7-4 win on Dec. 12 in Swift Current.

The Raiders start the second half of their season as the top team in the Eastern Conference with a 23-5-4 (Wins-Losses-Overtime Losses), sitting one point ahead of the Medicine Hat Tigers, and the Raiders still have a game in hand.

Before the break, the Raiders had a big 8-3 win over the Kelowna Rockets. The game before the Raiders lost 5-4 in Regina against the Pats, and that broke up a five game winning streak for the Raiders.

As for the Broncos, they are coming into the game as the last place team in the league with a record of 8-23-1. With 17 points on the season, the Broncos are a full six points back of Red Deer and Lethbridge ahead of them.

The Broncos are on the longest losing streak of the season as well with 12 straight losses, most recently 9-2 to Calgary, 10-2 to Medicine Hat, and 7-4 to the Raiders back on Dec. 12.

On specials teams, the Raiders powerplay went off on the Kelowna Rockets, going 5/9 in that game. That brings the Raiders to 26.4%, 10th in the league. As for the penalty kill, it’s 6/7 in the last two games, which has them smack dab in the middle of the league at 12th, or 76.6%.

On the powerplay, the Broncos are sitting 15th in the league at 22.7%. Their penalty kill is down to 20th in the league at 69.9%.

Aiden Oiring leads the Raiders in scoring with 14G-22A-36P. Brandon Gorzynski sits second with 16G-19A-35P, and Riley Boychuk sits third with 6G-27A-33P.

As for who’s hot, nine different Raiders are coming into the weekend with points in consecutive games. Brock Cripps won’t play in Saturday’s game due to illness, but his 1G-9A in the last nine games is the longest streak on the Raiders. After that is:

  • Daxon Rudolph has 7G-7A in the last eight games
  • Brayden Dube has 2G-4A in the last five games
  • Brandon Gorzynski has 5G-5A in the last four games, including 3G-2A in his last game
  • Riley Boychuk has 1G-6A in his last four games
  • Justice Christensen has 3G-0A in his last three games
  • The trio of Oil Chenier, Jonah Sivertson, and Connor Howe have 1G-1A in their last two games

As for the Broncos, Noah Kosick is their leading scorer with 10G-23A-33P on the year. After that is a three way toe for second in team scoring between Zach Pantelakis with 9G-10A-19P, and both Anthony Wilson and Jace McFaul with 7G-12A-19P.

The only active point streak of the Broncos belongs to Noah Kosick, who has 2G-3A in his last five games.

Finally on to the goaltending battle, the Raiders will be without Michal Orsulak who is away at the World Juniors with the Team Czechia and fellow Raider Matyas Man. That leaves the goaltending tandem of Dimitri Fortin with a 11-2-1 record, a 0.878 save percentage, a 3.20 goals against average, and one shutout on the year, and Steele Bass with a 2-0-0 record, 0.878 save percentage, and a 2.50 goals against average.
