It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Laurie Ann Paul on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. Laurie was born on March 7, 1961, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the first daughter of Lyle and Ruth “Toots” Bird.
Laurie spent her early years in Winnipeg until her family moved to St. Louis when she was 14 years old. She graduated from St. Louis School in 1979. Later on in life, she attended Suntep Prince Albert where she graduated at 41 years of age. She spent her entire 23 year teaching career at Almightyvoice Education Centre at One Arrow First Nation. Laurie left a lasting impact on all her students and the staff at AEC.
The biggest joy in Laurie’s life was her family. Laurie’s greatest accomplishment was raising her 4 children, Brian, Ash, Mel and Skip until Grandma Laurie came to be with the arrival of her first grandchild, Kaidy. This was followed in quick succession by Aubrey, Reid, Alexis, Quinn, Jadon, Max, Kashton and Kolt plus her bonus grandson, Kaelen. Laurie always made a point of being there for her grandchildren’s achievements didn’t matter how big or small. She cherished every moment with them, family gatherings being her favourite. Laurie used any excuse to get her whole family together under one roof.
She will be remembered for her warm smile, her generous spirit, and the way she always made sure people felt welcomed and included. Her legacy lives on in her family, and the countless memories she created with all who knew her.
Laurie leaves to cherish her memory her children, Brian (Janelle) Reid and Quinn; Ashley (Brian Junior) Alexis and Jadon; Melanie (Dustin) Kaidence, Kaelen, Kashton and Kolt; Skip (Amanda) Aubrey and Max; her parents, Lyle and Ruth Bird; her siblings, Ron (Donna) Bird, Lynne Regnier and Reg Bird; her crew, Shawn, Karen and Kevin Bird; her nieces and nephews and numerous cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Dwayne Bird and her brother-in-law, Randall Regnier.
