Fire department finds encampment inside bridge column

Prince Albert firefighters found an unusual situation yesterday when they responded to a fire at the Diefenbaker Bridge.

When crews arrived at the bridge around 4 p.m., they found an access door to a large, open vault area had been removed.

Inside, there was a homeless encampment and a fire, that was quickly extinguished.

The city has been notified about the door so it can be repaired as well as the small tunnel that was dug to gain access to the vault area.
