Monica was born on July 26, 1951, to Bernice and Elmer Thall in Prince Albert, SK. The family lived on a farm outside Canwood, SK, where Monica was the second of four daughters each with a name beginning with the letter “M.” Myrna, Margo, and Mavis – her beloved sisters – meant the world to her.
She graduated from Canwood High School and furthered her education at Saskatoon Business College. She held a variety of professional roles, including manager of the Canwood Credit Union, bookkeeper, and health care administration. She made lifelong friendships through her work.
From her first marriage to Kurt came her daughter, Chantelle, who became the heart of Monica’s world. To Chantelle, she was “Mama” – a devoted and nurturing presence whose love knew no bounds. She guided Chantelle with gentle strength and taught her resilience and compassion through unconditional love. Monica found lasting love when she met Merv Bobryk who stood faithfully by her side through life’s joys and challenges. Together, they built a partnership rooted in mutual respect, enduring love, fun, and unwavering companionship. They would have celebrated 40 years of partnership in 2026.
Monica, affectionately known as Rosie, had a lifelong passion for travel and treasured the adventures she shared with friends and family. Her favorite place was a white sandy beach, gazing over the turquoise waters while watching her son-in-law Frank kitesurf or visiting with travel companions.
Monica appreciated small joys – popcorn and shrimp, glittery shoes, a cup of tea, cousin jammy parties, and long baths. She embraced life’s simple pleasures and believed in living within one’s means.
Rosie was a beloved aunt and a “second mom” to countless friends of Chantelle. Her gentle kindness made others feel safe and seen. Many have remembered her as non-judgmental, welcoming, and wise – a quiet, loving presence who inspired the next generation of parents.
Monica was predeceased by her parents, Bernice and Elmer Thall; her parents-in-law, Bill and Phyllis Bobryk; and several beloved relatives. Her memory lives on in the hearts of her partner, daughter, son-in-law, extended family, the community of Canwood, and everyone who had the joy of knowing her.
