Charles conquers again at Frank Dunn Toyota Triathlon
Approximately 275 triathletes braved the heat Sunday to compete in this year’s Frank Dunn Toyota triathlon in Waskesiu.
This year marks the 34th annual for the event that continues to attract participants ranging from some of Western Canada’s top competitors, to beginners in the sport. It is the oldest triathlon in Western Canada, having started in 1982.
The triathlon began in the water at 8 a.m. sharp at the main beach of Waskesiu with a horn start. Mother Nature provided the competitors with an extra bit of inspiration that morning with a unique view of a rainbow that was spread out across the lake.
Christina Charles of Prince Albert won her third straight ladies championship on Sunday placing fifth overall. Her mom Dulcie Charles, who was also in Sunday’s race, has in the past won the triathlon three times as well.
