THE CONCERTS

February 12th, 2014 | 7:30pm Darren McMullin & Rachel Davis NS

Darren McMullen is a highly sought after multi-instrumentalist based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

His list of on-stage weapons includes mandolin, bouzouki, tenor banjo, whistles, guitar and bass. 2004 was a turning point for Darren. J.P. Cormier was in the market for a bass player, preferably a 'utility guy' who could move between several instruments in the run of a show. Darren went on to hold a permanent position touring with J.P. for four years playing halls and festivals around the globe. During his time with J.P., Darren recorded his second album “Decade” in J.P.'s studio which received an ECMA nomination for the 2010 Instrumental Album of the Year.

Since then, Darren has been busy touring and performing with a wide range of bands including the Colin Grant Band, Pogey, Dave Gunning, Matt Andersen,
David Francey, Gillian Boucher, Troy MacGillivray, Andrea Beaton, Rachel Davis, Anna Ludlow, and Chrissy Crowley. In the fall of 2010, Darren was
hired by The Rankins for their 22 date Acoustic Tour. Strongly influenced by the playing of her grandfather, Clarence Long, Baddeck native Rachel Davis
has been a student of the fiddle since she was twelve. Now considered one of the best young Cape Breton style players currently on the go, she was
fortunate enough to be the recipient of the 2009 Frank “Big Sampy” Sampson Award, giving financial aid for a Cape Breton artist to record their first
CD.

March 15th, 2014 | 7:30pm – The Stacks NY/SK

Andy Stack and Tania Elizabeth met in NYC. A conversation about music turned into a four-hour jam session, and the duo was born. Andy grew up in a
household full of acoustic instruments and traditional music. His love of early American music led him to the blues and singer-songwriter genres as a
professional musician, as well as the occasional stint playing guitar in both on and off-Broadway.

Tania grew up in a family that moved constantly and was exposed to so many styles of music that she could mimic anything.

She is a founding member of the band The Duhks, out of Winnipeg, MB. With a foundation in Classical and Celtic styles, Tania traveled the world,
absorbing every style possible, integrating them in her trademark sound.

Both Andy and Tania started touring professionally at 15 years old, and both have toured internationally: Andy with Jonah Smith, Les Nubians, NY Ska Jazz
Ensemble, Duncan Sheik & Suzanne Vega; and Tania with The Duhks and Mary Gauthier. Both are highly respected musicians and have been in constant
demand as sidemen. This new direction allows them to uplift each other.

Together they are making the music they've loved their whole lives.

April 11th, 2014 | 7:30pm – David Newland ON

David Newland was born in Ottawa, raised on the shores of Georgian Bay near Parry Sound, and travelled Canada and the world before settling in Cobourg,
Ontario. David built and lived in a cabin near the Fundy Shore in Nova Scotia, then established a career as an online media producer in Toronto.

All the while, he toiled at his art, building momentum as a writer and performer. He was the founding editor of Roots Music Canada. In October His
new album “Give it a Whirl”, produced by Gregg Lawless, showcases David Newland's warm, welcoming voice and distinctive songwriting. The CD features
the talents of John Sheard, George Koller, Dala, Kirsten Jones, and members of Quartette, The Good Lovelies and The Bebop Cowboys. David has released
two live CDs, Evergreen, in 2003 and Roll Away in 2005. His songwriting successes include Riding on the Railway, the theme song for CTV's Canada's
Greatest Ride, in which David also appears, performing on a train crossing Canada. Faster Than You Know won “Best Music” at the Waterwalker Film
Festival, and ukulele favourite That's the Miracle was featured prominently in CBC's The Gospel According to Uke.

HOME ROUTES

Home Routes operates 14 house concert touring circuits across Canada, from YT to PE.

House concerts are a North American tradition that developed within the folk-roots milieu to introduce artists to wider audiences. During the 1950's
“folk boom” a significant number of young people began to choose “folk singing” as their profession. With the number of talented performers by far
exceeding the number of places to play, house concerts remain a significant part of the music scene.

Home Routes brings small communities professional artists of exceptional talent who would otherwise perform only in theatres, concert halls and folk
festivals in urban markets. With almost no physical separation between artist and audience, a house concert is an intimate experience for everyone.
Casual, comfortable and unpretentious, house concerts are fun and very often, inspirational events that create lasting memories.
