Frank Douglas Channon
July 13, 1937 – September 19, 2025
It is with deep love that the family of Frank Douglas Channon announces his passing on September 19, 2025, at the age of 88 years.
Frank was born and raised on the Channon homestead in Garden River, where he attended Claytonville School until Grade 7. At the young age of 14, he left school to take on the responsibility of running the family farm—an early testament to his strong work ethic and devotion to family.
On August 1, 1964, Frank married the love of his life, Iris McKenzie, beginning a partnership filled with devotion, laughter, and adventure. Together they welcomed two children, Lorraine in 1965 and Dale in 1969. While farming remained his lifelong work, Frank also built a career in construction, drove the school bus for Meath Park and Carlton High School, and operated his own sawmill while building the family home. In 1981 he rented out the farm and later sold to cousins, Alan and Kevin Scragg.
Frank believed in serving his community. He was a Counsellor for the RM of Garden River #490 for four years and served on the school boards for both David School and Meath Park.
After 28 years Frank retired in 2002. Frank embraced the outdoors and leisure. He loved fishing, and golf became a true passion—especially at his “second home,” Cooke Golf Course, where he proudly scored a hole-in-one. Frank and Iris enjoyed traveling together, making countless trips to British Columbia, over 20 school-break visits to Las Vegas, and later spending winters at Lake Havasu, Arizona.
In 2022, after a lifetime on the Channon farm, Frank and Iris moved to Prince Albert, where he continued to cherish family, friends, and the simple joys of life. Special thanks to friends for the coffee runs. Roman, John and Laurie Walker for your support.
Frank will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Iris; his daughter, Lorraine (Brad) Gulka of Saskatoon, SK, and their family; Michelle (Kris) Klapitiuk, and their children Ellis and Annie; Ryan Gulka; his son Dale (Melissa) Channon of Calgary, AB, and their daughter Abigail; his brothers-in-law, Murdo (Edie) McKenzie of Boswell Oklahoma, and Redford (Karen) McKenzie, Prince George, BC; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Annie (Scragg) Channon; his brother, Douglas, in infancy; and his sisters, Helen (Marvin) Anderson and Nancy (Archie) Pocha.
Special thanks to Dr. Surkan and staff of the Rose Garden Hospice for their care.
