In Loving Memory of Brenda Tubman (née Kapacila)
Jan 6,1959 – Sept 8, 2025
On January 6, 1959, in Prince Albert, SK, Eugene and Doreen Kapacila welcomed their first child, Brenda. She didn’t spend long as the only child as before the year was out, her sister Barbara was born, beginning a bond that would last a lifetime. Brenda and Barb grew up not just as sisters, but as best friends and confidantes, inseparable in love and spirit.
Brenda’s earliest days were spent on the family farm near Spruce Home, a place that left a lasting mark on her heart. It was there that her deep love for animals was born—a love that would carry through her entire life. When the family later moved into Prince Albert, Brenda’s role as the oldest sibling grew even more important. She was not only a big sister to Barbara but also to Valerie, Janice, and David. Brenda wore that role proudly—sometimes bossy, always stubborn, and unfailingly funny. Those traits, so uniquely hers, stayed with her right until her passing on September 8, 2025, at the age of 66.
Athletic and strong, Brenda grew into a determined young woman. Over the years, she built a career working at the Bank of Nova Scotia, Safeway Canada, and for a time, in a role she was especially proud of—with the RCMP.
Brenda married her first husband, Terry Read, and together they welcomed their son Scott—the joy of her life. Even after Scott’s passing, his presence never left her heart, and he remained her pride and joy. Later, Brenda found love again with her husband, Sam Tubman. Together, they made their home on the Big B & Tubby Ranch near Spruce Home, where Brenda thrived among her dogs, cats, horses, and cows. The farm was her happy place, and her love for animals was as strong as it had been in her childhood. Brenda also had a gift for growing things and her “green thumb” was evident in the flowers and gardens she nurtured at Pine View Terrace, where she lived in her later years and took pride in making things beautiful.
Brenda’s life was not without hardship. She faced many health struggles, especially in her later years, but she faced them with courage. She was blessed to spend time at Pine View alongside her beloved mother, Doreen, where they shared visits and companionship.
Brenda leaves behind her mother, Doreen Kapacila; her sisters, Barb (Marlon) Levesque, Valerie (Ted) Bosch, and Janice Kapacila; her brother, David (Yazmin); and many nieces and nephews who will carry her memory forward. She is reunited in peace with her son, Scott Read, her father and pillar of strength, Eugene Kapacila, and her husband, Sam Tubman.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and nurses at Pine View Terrace, the Herb Bassett Home, and the doctors and nurses at the Victoria Union Hospital for their kindness and care. A special thank you is also extended to the doctors and nursing staff at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. To the three nurses who held Brenda’s hand as she peacefully left this world—your compassion will forever remain in our hearts and never be forgotten.
Brenda, your struggles are over. May you now find rest, surrounded by the love of Scott and Dad once more.
At Brenda’s request a funeral will not be held. In lieu of other tributes, the family kindly asks that donations in memory of Brenda be made to Pine View Terrace, 1200A 24 Street West, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 4N9, whose compassionate care meant so much to us all.
