Joseph “Joe Joe” John Vernon Schmitt passed away with family by his side at the Red Deer Hospice March 24, 2025
Joe Joe was born to Joe and Lettia (Springer)Schmitt November 22, 1968 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. He started his life in Prince Albert then in 1978, the family moved to Hoey where Joe attended St. Louis School and graduated from Domremy High School.
Joe moved from Saskatchewan to the big city of Edmonton to spread his wings and start new adventures. He made many friends along the way throughout his studies at SAIT in Calgary, working as a sandblaster and painting houses. Joe was meticulous with each of his jobs and had an amazing work ethic. A job well done was truly one of Joe’s passions throughout his career as a journeyman painter. He took great joy and pride in everything he did.
Joe was a loyal firend and all around great guy who lived life to the fullest. He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends who were always entertained with his sense of humor. He truly brought the life to the party.His unique and infectious laugh would light up any room. His love for life, family and friends were hallmarks of his life. Joe’s generousity knew no bounds. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people.
Joe leaves behind his daughter Samantha(Ashton) Schmitt, his mother Lettia Springer, his step mother Marj Schmitt, his sister Sharon(Brent) Hopkins and their children Josh, Bennett(Miranda) and great nephew Thomas. Uncles Charlie Schmitt, Murray(Pam) Springer, Aunt Lorraine Boyer and their families. Joe is leaving behind special friends, Samantha’s mother, Corinne Schmitt, Marilyn Smith, Sheliah Yetman, Howard Swain and Wayne Waters.
Joe was predeceased by his father, Joe, his grandparents Yvonne and Jean Schmitt, Gladys and Erwin Springer, Uncles Gerald Boyer, Louis and Aunts Kit Schmitt, Leonette Schmitt and cousins Denis Boyer, Stella Boyer and Chuck Schmitt.
The compassionate care Joe and our family received at the Red Deer Hospice will always be remembered. The staff and nurses helped make a scary and challenging time a more bearable. They will always be remembered.

A celebration of life will be held Tuesday August 5th at 4:00pm at the Prince Albert Wildlife Federation Central Avenue North, RM of Buckland (north of Prince Albert on HWY 2)
