Steve Martin’s Face Looks Funny

Feb 20, 2014 | 9:03 PM

Reading the title, “Steve Martin’s Face Looks Funny” might have made you smile because he is funny.  However, I don’t mean it looks ‘funny ha -ha’.  I think it looks – funny – as in, it never used to look like that.

I’m in the business of helping people look better and feel better.  As such, I’ve developed a bit of an eagle’s eye when it comes to features, skin and hair.

A face ages a certain way.   Volume leaves the cheekbone area and redistributes itself lower down, around the jaw line. Cheeks can look sunken and jaw lines can look heavier.  Many people get jowls.

But not Steve Martin.  His cheeks are plumper than they were years ago.  Higher.  In fact, his cheeks are so plump that when he smiles, his eyes are almost squeezed shut by the fullness of his cheeks.

I noticed this when I watched “It’s Complicated” with Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and, you guessed it, Steve Martin.  (Favorite moment: when Meryl Streep throws up in a bedside drawer.)  I was distracted from the story whenever he was on the screen, by those cheeks.  I don’t like it when cheeks divert my attention from the story.  So I searched images online of Steve in his younger years, to compare.

Now, I’m all for getting work done but under two conditions.  You look better and you feel better.  I don’t think Steve Martin looks better.

Maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about.  Maybe I’m seeing things.  Imagining cheeks where there are no cheeks.  Maybe I’m right but the big cheeks are caused by something else like medication, or having a new baby at 68 years old.

When you have time, take a look at Steve’s face, past and present.  Decide for yourself.  Then let me know if you also think Steve’s face looks funny.
