Olga Smytaniuk
1932-2025
It is with great sadness the family of Olga Smytaniuk, late of Prince Albert, SK announce her passing on June 25, 2025, with her family at her side.
On June 13, 1932, Olga was born on a small farm just out of Meath Park. She was raised on that farm and stayed until she married John in November of 1949 at which time they moved onto their own farm to farm it for a few years. In 1955, they moved into the town of Meath Park where they took over running the store for a few years. When the boys were young, they moved into Prince Albert which became their forever home. Throughout that time, Olga worked at the Marlboro which kept her very busy as she was often alone raising the boys while John worked away. In March of this year, she finally moved from their house of 55 years into River Breeze where she resided until her passing.
Her greatest joy in life was her family; her boys were her world, and when her grandsons were born, they became very special to her. Baba and Gido were often seen on the road to Martensville, bucket of fried chicken in hand and a heart full of a lot of love to share with her grandsons. There was nothing more special than spending a few days with her favorite boys. In her later years, her time was spent gardening and looking after her yard, something she was always quite particular about and very proud of (thank you Kelly for all your help). Her biggest complaint was always the old Ash tree in the back yard…it always needed trimming (or maybe should have been cut down completely)….but when pressed, the tree was just fine the way it was!
Olga also had her little bucket list, and on her list was Hawaii, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Victoria BC; she was fortunate enough to have completed it, except for a return trip to Victoria and a road trip to Waskesiu that was planned for her last birthday earlier this month. Only health problems prevented those trips, or they would have happened!
Olga is survived by her two sons, Maurice (Marlene Cooper) Smytaniuk and Brian (Carolyn) Smytaniuk; grandsons, Shaun Smytaniuk and Kyle (Hailey) Smytaniuk; great grandchildren, Kendrick and Avalon Smytaniuk; sisters, Irene (Stan) Korecki and Sylvia Balon; her sisters-in-law, Marie Kalinowski, Sylvia Kalinowski, and Iris Kalinowski; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Olga was predeceased by her maternal parents Mike Sr. and Jenny Kalinowski; her husband John Smytaniuk; her son Greg Smytaniuk; her brothers Mike Kalinowski, Jim(Vicky) Kalinowski, Nick Kalinowski, Harry (Pauline) Kalinowski, Johnny Kalinowski, and Steven Kalinowski; her sisters Sophie (Mike) Kalika, Mary (William) Balicki, Helen (Earl) Middlebrook, and Victoria Kalinowski; her brother and sisters-in-law, Bill (Mary) Smytaniuk, Jennie (George) Kostyniuk, Vicky (Steve) Korolischuk, Mary (Leon) Esopenko, Alex (Annie) Smytaniuk, Dalvena (Stan) Narowski, and Andrew Smytaniuk; her nephews, Larry Korolyschuk and Eddy Boyachko; and her niece Mary Strilkew.
