Walter Wawro
March 2, 1930- June 15, 2025
It is with great sadness that the family of Walter Wawro announces his sudden passing on June 15, 2025, at the age of 95. He passed away peacefully with his beloved wife of 69 years, Kris by his side.
Walter was born on March 2, 1930, in Prince Albert, SK to Mary and Jerry Wawro. The family lived in Lily Plain, where Jerry worked for Dr Bliss before purchasing land in Steep Creek. Walter began schooling in Lily Plain, where he became a skilled ball player- a talent he continued to showcase when the family moved to Steep Creek.
On October 27, 1956, Walter married the love of his life Kris Nikolaisen. Together, they built a beautiful life on the family farm in Steep Creek, where they raised their two sons and shared countless cherished memories.
Walter had a quiet strength and could do just about anything he set his mind to. He faced challenges with determination and grit. He built shops, barns, fences, and his own home. He raised livestock through patience and persistence, learning every step of the way. He did not need to ask for help. He figured things out that was Walter determined capable and quietly wise.
Walter found time in his later years to enjoy curling. He loved the sport not just for the game itself, but for the camaraderie the challenge, and the laughs shared with good friends.
Walter and Kris loved to travel and together they explored Mexico, Las Vegas, Hawaii, California and all across Canada. But no matter how far they went, his favorite place was always home. A simple drive around the countryside with Kris by his side.
On March 2, 2025 the family gathered to celebrate his 95th birthday. The family laughed that he did not need glasses to read his birthday cards, and his hearing was just as sharp as his wit. They celebrated not just a number, but a life filled with purpose, love and grace.
