1938 – 2025
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Johan Daniel “Stirling” Hopkins in his sleep on June 6, 2025 at the age of 86, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
Stirling was born in Dinsmore, SK on December 12, 1938 to Robert and Gerda Hopkins. Stirling was raised in Anerley and attended LCBI in Outlook, SK where he met the love of his life Marion (nee Rindal). Stirling and Marion were married 63 years ago. They lived in Burstall, SK and Hinton, AB prior to settling in Prince Albert to raise a family. Stirling progressively assumed operation of Ingvald (Oliva) Rindal’s grain farm (Marion’s parents) in Northern Light, SK. Stirling’s passion for farming grew around his primary job as 1st class power engineer at Prince Albert Pulp and Paper from mill start-up until his retirement.
Stirling is survived by his siblings Jim (Karen) Hopkins, Anne (Ed) Ralph, and Ingrid Petruic; his children, Derek (Lisa) Hopkins, Brenton (Sharon) Hopkins, Carol Trueman and Mark (Colette) Hopkins; grandchildren Jessica (Justin) Lazuk, Jordan Hopkins, Olivia Hopkins, Bennett (Miranda) Hopkins, Joshua Hopkins, Danielle (Tyler) Trueman, Ryan Trueman, Linnea Hopkins and Torsten Hopkins; and great grandchildren Thomas Hopkins and James Lazuk. He was predeceased by his wife Marion, and his brothers Doug and Lionel.
A Celebration of Stirling’s Life will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1796 15th Avenue East, Prince Albert, SK on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. with reception to follow. All are welcome to attend. The service will be livestreamed and recorded.
