Maaike Lutgertje Jackson (known as Mary) was born in Bozum the Netherlands on November 30, 1923 along with her twin brother Jelke. She met her future husband Walter in 1945 when he was part of the troops who liberated the Netherlands from 5 years of German occupation. She came to Canada in 1947 and they were married on August 1, 1947. They lived on a farm in the Norden district north of Kinistino. She was a stay at home mom and great babysitter for her grandchildren. She liked baking and the house often smelled of fresh bread when the kids got home from school. She enjoyed gardening and preserving food for the winter months, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and could sew clothes for the kids without using a pattern. She never missed any of Jim and Rick’s baseball games. In 1981, Walter and Mary built a house in Kinistino and moved in October of that year. Once they were in town they joined the Half Century Club and took part in all the activities there. They specially liked carpet bowling and the tournaments with near by towns. They took up golfing and spent many hours on the golf course with friends. Mary also joined the Legion Auxiliary.
