Merril Klimek
1941 ~ 2025
Merril Klimek, age 83, passed away peacefully at the Herb Bassett Care Home on May 9, 2025.
Merril is survived by his loving family, son, Michael (Lailani) Klimek and children, Zhareine, Titus, Korbin, Aspyn, Lochlan; daughter, Kimberley (Michael) Cook and children, Zenobia, Tahlia, and Olivia; their mother/grandmother, Mary Lou Nicolson Klimek; siblings, Garry (Blanche) and Sharon (Ron) Misseghers; sisters-in-law, Bonnie, Camille. He was predeceased by his parents, Adam and Lena; brothers, Bud, Gordon, Calvin; and sister, Delphine (Fred) Wawro.
Merril was born at home on the farm in Fir Ridge on August 14, 1941. He grew up farming and, on a whim, while talking to a friend at the gas station, decided to join the RCMP. After training in Regina Merril was stationed in Campbell River, Duncan, Port Alberni, Prince Rupert, Victoria, Ottawa, Calgary, Cochrane and back to Calgary before retiring from the forces after 24 years. Merril most enjoyed fishing, hunting, and building. In his mid-20’s on Vancouver Island he built his home, from scratch, which still stands today. His carpentry skills never went unused as he was always building/fixing things around his home or for friends and family. He returned to the farm whenever he could to help with seeding and harvest, enjoy his mom’s cooking, and head to his siblings’ cabins for fishing, cards, and drinks. After retiring from the RCMP he worked for the City of Calgary in Animal Services and Corporate Security for 13 years before returning to his roots in Prince Albert to farm on his homeland. Merril faced many health challenges in recent years but his perseverance and hope gave us many more years with him than expected. We will miss him very much but find solace knowing he is at peace.
We are forever grateful to all the doctors and nurses at the Victoria Hospital Dialysis Unit as well as the caregivers at the Herb Bassett Care Home for their outstanding and compassionate care.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the River Park Funeral Home, 301 River St W, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 2Z3, followed by lunch and fellowship.
