Joyce Elaine Trach
1938-2025
It is with love and gratitude for a long life well lived that the family of Joyce Trach announces her passing on April 23, 2025 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, just days before her 87th birthday.
Joyce was born on April 26, 1938, the eldest daughter of Robert and Verna Scales. She grew up in the Fir Ridge district, where she attended school and developed a lifelong appreciation for rural life. She loved spending time outdoors, riding her horse, Queenie or helping her dad with the animals. Joyce later worked as a nurse’s aide at the Prince Albert Sanatorium, a role that reflected her caring and compassionate nature.
On August 8, 1959, Joyce married Andrew Trach, and together they made their home in Steep Creek, raising three daughters: Tara, Faye and Andrea.
Joyce loved farm life and took pride in her garden and flowers, always maintaining a well-groomed yard. Joyce had a deep appreciation for nature and especially enjoyed walks in the bush with her beloved dogs, Trapper and Sheba.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who always made sure her family felt special especially through the meals she would prepare. She had an artistic side as well, narrating and illustrating a book for her grandson and helping with science and history projects. Her story-telling, sleepovers and outdoor adventures made lasting memories for her grandchildren.
She made frequent trips to La Ronge, Birch Hills, Swift Current and Young, to visit her families, and a memorable trip to Mexico – where she so adored the local wildlife that her family joked they were surprised she didn’t try to smuggle a gecko home in her suitcase. Time at the lake with friends and the fishing trips to Stanley Mission were also highlights she cherished.
Joyce was a dedicated volunteer and community member. She was actively involved with the Vintage Power Machines Club, taking pride in summer festivals, fall suppers, fundraising events, and hosting countless school tours. She enjoyed her volunteer time at The Salvation Army. She also volunteered at the Prince Albert Historical Museum and was a fixture at the May Crocus Tea, where her signature square angel food cakes were always in demand.
Joyce is lovingly remembered by her daughters: Tara Hiebert (Dave), Faye Nutting (Dale) and Andrea Marks (Robert).
Her grandchildren: Jason (Jen) Hiebert, Justin (Brittany) Hiebert, Fraser (Noelle) Hiebert, Travis Nutting & Katelyn Yeadon, Jennifer McConnell and Chris McQuid, Matthew (Kirby) McConnell. Her great-grandchildren: Samantha, Bailey, Carter, Makenna, Kinsley, Briggs, Ellie-May and Poppy.
Joyce is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Vince Guedo.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Andrew Trach, her parents, Robert and Verna Scales; her sisters, Sena Siwak and Carol Blaseg and her in-laws, Michael and Mary Trach.
A private graveside service will be held on May 31, 2025 in accordance with Joyce’s wishes. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all who shared in Joyce’s life.
Her legacy of love, kindness and dedication to family and community will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
