Lewis Paul Ernst passed away on April 28, 2025, in Shellbrook Hospital at the age of 96yrs. Lewis was born August 25, 1928, at Shellbrook Nursing home. For his schooling he attended Brant School and took his elementary education. He had various jobs including threshing, driving a caterpillar, piling brush for various farmers in Sturgeon Valley. He also skidded logs at Wilfred Anderson’s logging camp for one winter. In 1950, he purchased a T.D.6 International Cat with his brother Howard and did custom breaking in the Sturgeon Valley and Wild Rose areas, until he eventually had dairy cows and went grain farming. On June 20, 1953, he married Mamie Morrison at the Holy Trinity Church in Sturgeon Valley. Their first home was the Miller’s old log house across from the Holy Trinity Church in 1956. In 1957 they moved to the Ernst homestead, where he resided until his passing. His father-in-law gave them their first dairy cow and in the early sixties they added 18 dairy cows and started shipping milk and cream, they also had pigs which they sent to market. He enjoyed farming, camping, fishing and tinkering in his shop, either fixing something or building birdhouses, Christmas decorations, etc., and he enjoyed visiting with people at the old co-op store in Prince Albert. He took great pride in his yard, it was always immaculate, not a blade of grass out of place.
