It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Irene Edna Dobson, late of Prince Albert, SK, on November 26th, 2024, at the age of 96 years. Irene passed peacefully, surrounded by family. Irene was born in Star City SK on June 15th, 1928, to William & Louise Dawson. Irene completed high school early and headed to Prince Albert, traveling by train, where she worked in the office at Canada Packers.
On May 24th, 1952, Irene married Lenard “Bergie” Bergstrom and had two children, Dwight and Dixie. They lived in Prince Albert for the next 8 years. In 1959, they moved to Saskatoon and lived there for 2 years, and then moved back to Prince Albert, were Irene stayed till her passing.
During that time, Irene worked at the bowling alley with Len. Irene spent her spare time working in the yard and sun tanning. They bought a shack tent in Waskesui, where they spent their summers, and Irene ended up working at Nunn’s grocery store to keep herself busy.
Later, Irene married Frank Dobson, and they enjoyed traveling to Hawaii for their winter holiday, where she learned to play crib. Irene also worked at the Bank of Montreal during that time, and they spent the summers camping with family and friends. After Frank’s passing in 1986, she travelled to Messa for the winter months, buying a trailer and teaching dancing.
In 2004, Irene married Loyd Smith, and they continued to travel to Messa every October for 6 months, and she knew every rest stop on the way. They spent their time there visiting with friends and dancing, sometimes 3 times a day. When they no longer could go south, they spent their days at the Legion, visiting with friends, playing crib, and dancing. Loyd and Irene always began their days having a crib match, sitting together in their recliners watching baseball and curling.
