Junior Youth Empowerment Program
The recently formed Junior Youth Group in Prince Albert is made up of young people between the ages of 11-14 who gather together regularly (every 2 weeks on Sunday afternoons) at the Montessori Preschool on Branion Drive to develop their powers of expression and sharpen their capacity to understand the moral implications of their thoughts and actions.
They do this with the help of an animator, usually an adult or older youth who acts as a peer and facilitator. The animator empowers the group to find ways to contribute to the betterment of their communities.
Rationale
The basic premise behind the program is the belief that junior youth (11-14) are capable of thinking deeply about the world and their place within it and that they need an environment that gives them support and encouragement. They like to belong to and work in peer groups without the fear of being ridiculed or bullied. They are energetic and inquisitive and have potentialities and capacities that are often not recognized and developed.
