Celebrating the Life of Clara Wiberg
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Clara Wiberg, a cherished member of the Paddockwood and Prince Albert communities. Clara passed away peacefully on January 31st, 2025, at the age of 93 years, surrounded by her loving family at the Rose Garden Hospice in Prince Albert, SK. Clara was born on March 1st, 1931, in Indian Head, SK to Bill and Alma Curts. Clara moved with her family to the Paddockwood area during the Great Depression. She took her early schooling in the one-room Melba School and later completed her high school education in Paddockwood. Clara married the love of her life, Allan Wiberg, on October 20th, 1950, and together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and community spirit, raising five children on their family farm just west of Paddockwood.
Clara’s life was a testament to service, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her community. She was actively involved in numerous organizations, including the local Legion, Curling clubs, Library boards, Red Cross, Canadian Cancer Society, Hospital board, and the Prince Albert Housing Association. Clara’s commitment to bringing people together and fostering a sense of belonging was one of her greatest gifts. Whether through her involvement in community events or her legendary ability to make everyone feel like family, she became affectionately known as “Grandma Wiberg” to many. In recognition of her lifelong commitment to volunteerism and community involvement, Clara was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012, a fitting tribute to a woman who dedicated herself wholeheartedly to the well-being of those around her. Clara and Allan operated the Co-op General Store in Paddockwood before owning and running a general store in Northside. Clara also worked many years in the accounting department at Beaver Lumber after earning a diploma in bookkeeping and credit management through evening courses. A woman of deep faith, Clara was a dedicated member of the Gateway Covenant Church, where she volunteered in many capacities.
Clara is survived by her 5 children: Daryl, Dwight, Owen (Mary), Elaine (Mike), and Bernie (Sonya), her eleven grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren; as well as countless others who considered her family.
Clara is predeceased by her husband Allan, her parents Bill (Alma) Curts, her brother, her sister, and all her brothers- and sisters-in-law.
Clara’s ability to create spaces where people felt welcome, valued, and loved will remain her legacy. The love she leaves behind in our hearts is immeasurable, and her impact on the community will be felt for generations to come.
A Funeral Service will be held for Clara on Saturday, March 22nd, 2025, at 11 AM at the Gateway Covenant Church in Prince Albert, SK.
