P.A. gets muscles moving for muscular dystrophy

Prince Albert came together to make muscles move at the Prince Albert Safeway Walk for Muscular Dystrophy at Kinsmen Park Sunday Sept. 13.

Supporters raised $2,745, beating their goal of $2,500.

The money will fund therapy treatments and also provide families with equipment they might not have been able to afford. 

More than 30 people turned out to walk, run and roll.

Guinevere “Gwen” Warner was this year’s ambassador. She was on hand to encourage participants and demonstrate the realities of living with muscular dystrophy.

She was born with congenital myotonic muscular dystrophy, which affects one in 8,000 people in Canada.

Born two months prematurely, and not expected to ever make it home from the hospital, she is now 16 and overcoming new challenges every day.

Four local firefighters and city counsellor Rick Orr also made appearances.

The Prince Albert firefighters donated $500, helping the walk clear its goal.

While the day was a success, organizer Geraldine Coolidge did face some negativity. Her camera, containing event and family photos, was stolen at the event.

She urges whoever took the camera, whether accidentally or purposefully, to return the camera or even just the memory card by calling (306) 241-9423.
