Ed Sokolowski
Born July 1, 1937, in a log house built by his father Aleksander on the farm of Lucien Berard in the Cameo district. He moved to Shellbrook in 1947 when his father purchased the NW 22-49-3 W3 quarter from Ross Ritchie.
He attended school first in Cameo then in Shellbrook. After graduating from high school, he held many jobs before taking over his dad’s farm. He worked for M&S (Pat Moan) Hardware, Beilhartz meats, Fellows Brother’s garage, Saskatchewan Telephone, as the Shellbrook Rink attendant and surveyed for nickel in Thompson Manitoba.
He met his wife Mary Adele Peterson at the home of Jim and Inez Van Eaton. They married on October 27, 1962. They first lived in Shellbrook and then transitioned to Alek’s farm in 1969. Ed farmed until the age of 75. He continued to live on the farm until his passing on February 4,2025.
Ed enjoyed hosting Monday night cards for 25 years. You knew if you phoned him on Monday nights, you were chatting with most of the “dignitaries” in the area. He took interest in everyone. He always had time to time visit and find out how you were doing. He was a mentor and second father to many.
He was predeceased by: (parents) Aleksander and Zofia Sokolowski; (uncle) Francis Soltechak; (his wife) Adele Sokolowski; (brother) Francis Sokolowski, (brother) Theodore Sokolowski.
He is survived by his daughter Colleen Sokolowski; son Jim Sokolowski and his wife Carol (nee Gomulczak); grandchildren Teresa, Amanda, and Douglas; his cousin Pat Grayston (nee Soltechak), husband Wilbur Grayston and their sons Dwight and Jason. As well as many nieces and nephews and extended family.
He passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home. There will be a Memorial Service held for Edward on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. from the Shellbrook Community Hall with Rev. Emmanuel Aristide as officiant. Memorial Donations may be made in memory of Edward to the Shellbrook & Districts Health Services Foundation.
