Vincent Hubert Grimes
Vincent “Vince” Grimes was born to Irish immigrant parents, Patrick and Elizabeth (nee Vauls) Grimes on December 11, 1938. He passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, at the age of 86 years. Vince attended St. Paul’s and St. Mary’s High schools during which time he worked at Minto Arena. Until 1962 Vince worked at Molson’s Brewery, then ventured to the Yukon for one year. Upon his return he was employed in the Parts Dept. at Anderson Motors while taking an evening drafting course. He was hired by the DNR Forestry doing topical mapping, which lead to becoming a Resource Technician, cruising timber provincially in the spring through fall. Vince was then hired as a Scaler, followed by Head Scaler, with the Prince Albert Pulp and Paper Mill (Weyerhaeuser) in 1972, and ending his 25-year career as the Woodroom Foreman in 1997. In retirement, Vince operated his sprinkler business until age 81.
Vince was a beautiful skater and enjoyed public skating, hockey and coaching Minor hockey. At the age of 14, he asked a young lady to skate with him, that girl, Patricia, later become his wife on September 2, 1961, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Winnipeg, MB. In July of 1964 their son, Terry Shawn was born and in 1968, exactly four years to the day, they welcomed their daughter, Kerry Corrine. Vince and Pat spent many winters cross-country and downhill skiing with friends. Vince, a very gifted downhill skier, could do Black Diamond runs and moguls the first time he put on his skis! In 1988 their travel included the Hawaiian Islands, with Maui becoming their favorite vacation home to revisit. Camping was also a big part of Vince’s life for many years, and this included Kananaskis, Jasper, and Fairmont Hot Springs. In Saskatchewan, Murray Point at Emma Lake and Waskesiu were staples. Vince was an all-around handyman and proficient at carpentry, mechanics and plumbing. He was a man of few words, “whatever” being one of his favorites. He was adept at quick retorts if necessary…the message was often made very clear.
Vince is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia Yvonne; his son, Terry Shawn Grimes; his daughter, Kerry Corrine Grimes; his niece, Lisa Grimes; and nephews, Patrick, Blaine, and Cameron Grimes. He was predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Elizabeth “Lilly”; his brother, Francis, sister, Patricia Webb; in-laws, Rhea and William Beeman, Leah Sheehan, and Terrence Merrick Beeman (Dorthy).
The family would like to give their thanks to the friends who shared a large part of Vince’s journey, Hugh, Ray, Byron, Rhonda, Romeo and our “angel”, Brian. Thank you to Drs. Cantin, Hildebrandt and Alana Surkan, Home Care Nursing, Victoria Hospital Staff and the Rose Garden Hospice for their outstanding care.
In keeping with Vince’s wishes, interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of other tributes, donations in memory of Vince may be made to the Prince Albert SPCA, 1125 North Industrial Drive, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 5T1 or Rose Garden Hospice, 500 38th St W, Prince Albert, SK S6V 7Z8.
