Louis “Lou” Gach of La Ronge, Saskatchewan, passed away after a long health journey on January 2, 2025 at the age of 78 years old.
He was born in Meath Park, Saskatchewan on June 23, 1946, to Walter and Annie Gach.
Lou was raised in Meath Park with his 5 siblings. He lived in various places but spent over 40 years of his life living in La Ronge. He raised his four children in La Ronge and was surrounded by many friends and close neighbours.
Lou was incredibly hard working and worked various jobs over his life. Most notably, he retired from Cogema Resources, McClean Lake Mine after many years of dedicated service. On his weeks at home, you could find Lou working at the Town of La Ronge and as a loyal volunteer and dedicated fan at the La Ronge Ice Wolves hockey games.
Lou had a deep love for his family, especially his 10 grandchildren. He was incredibly generous, kind hearted and helpful. He also had a great sense of humour and loved his daily meeting with his buddies on coffee row.
Lou is survived and will be deeply missed by his wife, Wendy Gach, and his children and grandchildren: his daughter, Shelley (Jeff) Goudie and their children, Jordan (Stacey), Scott (Shylan), Madison and Lyndzee; his son, Kory (Jodi) Gach and their children, Brett and Brody; his daughter, Stacey Gach and her children, McKynlie (Little Mac) and Hadleigh; and his daughter, Kristee (Shane) Gach and their children, Bair and York. He was also a great-grandpa to Lydia Goudie.
He is also survived by his brother, Pete (Sandy) Gach, whom he shared a deep connection with; and his sisters, Mary Mazurak, Kathy Wickett and Rosie Fekete; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many dearly loved friends, especially J.P. Proulx and his boys.
Lou was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Annie Gach; his sister, Lily Cheslock; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mervin and Margaret Vancoughnett; his brothers-in-law, John Mazurak, Karl Fekete and Art Wickett; as well as his dear friend, Bob Graas.
His family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Stensrud Lodge and The Palisades for the care and companionship they provided him during his final years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and the Canadian Mental Health Association – Saskatchewan Division.
