Weidner apartments to change hands

Nov 29, 2024 | 4:37 PM

Indications are that Weidner Apartments has sold the multiple apartment buildings it owns in Prince Albert.

A photo taken of the company’s office on second Ave. W. has a sign saying that the building is permanently closed. And a letter sent to tenants, and obtained by paNOW, states that as of Nov. 27, Wingspan Dev. Capital Inc. is the new owner of Tamaron Square, the Mews (Carlton Mews, River Mews, MGM), and Forest Grove building in Prince Albert.

The letter also provides information as to where to direct future rent payments.

Weidner, a problematic landlord company based in the United States, has been accused by tenants of not dealing with multiple cockroach issues, fire alarms being pulled, blood smeared on hallway walls and more.

Looking on the Weidner website shows units available to rent in Saskatoon and Regina, but none in Prince Albert.

Calls to the company headquarters were not returned prior to publication but the City of Prince Albert confirmed that it is aware that discussions have been happening around ownership of the company’s multiple buildings in the city.

“The buildings serve a very valuable need in Prince Albert and we’re looking forward to working with the new owners to provide a safe place for people to live,” said Director of Community Development, Craig Guidinger.

None of the tenants paNOW has been in contact with have said they were given any notification and some are wondering where to pay their rent tomorrow.

This group photo of Weidner staff was taken several days ago. (submitted)
