Riders coach to kick of Agribition

Nov 25, 2024 | 10:02 AM

It is a role reserved for dignitaries like agriculture ministers and city officials. However, the 53rd edition of the Canadian Western Agribition (CWA) will officially begin at the hands of the Head Coach of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Agribition is officially opening this morning with the Burning of the Brand led by Corey Mace.

As the 48th coach in the team’s history, and notably the first Canadian to take the helm in over two decades, Mace brings pride and excitement as a central figure in this year’s event.

“In our locker room, we strive to reflect the values of the community around us, and one of those core values is the hard-working mentality of our province’s farmers and ranchers,” Mace said. “Agriculture and Roughrider football are two things that are deeply rooted in Saskatchewan’s culture, and I’m thrilled to be a part of such an iconic event and to help the community kick off an exciting week at Agribition.”

The Burning of the Brand ceremony will bring greetings from Federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay, newly sworn in Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister Daryl Harrison, and Jennifer Johnson, Deputy City Manager of Communications, Service Regina and Tourism.

Under the guidance of CEO Shaun Kindopp and newly appointed President Michael Latimer, CWA continues its tradition of highlighting Canadian agricultural excellence.

Kindopp is leading his third show.

“As we open the 53rd edition of CWA, we celebrate not just this important event, but the spirit and innovation that define Saskatchewan,” Kindopp said. “This is one of the most exciting events of the year.”

Michael Latimer, President of Agribition and a native of Olds, Alta., has been an active member of the CWA board since 2015, and is thrilled to be president during the 25th year of Agribition’s Beef Supreme.

“Hosting the 25th Annual Beef Supreme is a significant milestone for CWA, and we are honoured to showcase world-leading beef genetics year after year,” he said.
