Crown stays sexual assault charge against Waskesiu business owner

A charge of sexual assault involving the owner of Pete’s Terrace at Waskesiu Lake has been stayed by the Crown.

According to court records obtained by paNOW, notice was provided on Friday.

On July 19, RCMP received a report of an alleged sexual assault in Waskesiu, the resort village in Prince Albert National Park. After an investigation, police arrested Dory Graae.

When paNOW attempted to contact Prosecutor Robyn Ermine for comment, she declined.

When a charge is stayed, the Crown has up to a year to bring it back to court, should new evidence present itself.

Lawyers Brian Pfefferle and Mark Brayford were co-counsel for Graae.

“Mr. Graae is grateful investigators and the Crown Prosecutor’s Office reviewed this matter prior to continuing with this prosecution. Mr Graae fully cooperated with this investigation and provided definitive evidence of his innocence. The RCMP and the Crown Prosecutor’s Office made the right decision. He is innocent and a prolonged trial process would have been a waste of resources,” Pfefferle told paNOW.

At the time of the incident, RCMP also executed a search warrant at a residence in Waskesiu. Police found a small amount of cocaine and trafficking paraphernalia. Police also charged Graae with one count of trafficking as a result.

That charge will be early addressed when Graae returns to court in early December at Montreal Lake.
