Helen Thorpe
1927 – 2024
Helen Thorpe (nee Hotzak) passed away peacefully at the Victoria Hospital on November 2, 2024 with her family at her side.
Born in Hafford on April 1, 1927, Helen’s family moved to the MacDowall area when she was 10. Throughout her teen years she worked as a nanny for various families in Prince Albert and then returned to the family farm for the summer. After formal training as a secretary, she had various jobs in Prince Albert, Saskatoon, and Toronto, returning to Prince Albert in 1948 to be with her father before he passed.
In 1957, Helen married Jim Thorpe and they raised 3 children, Shirley, David, and Karen. Raising a family, gardening, baking, and volunteering made for a full and rewarding life.
Helen was predeceased by her parents Adam and Antonia Hotzak, her husband Jim, two brothers Zane and Anthony, and her sister Alice.
Helen is survived by her children, Shirley (Jean Arsenault) and their children Michael (Hannah) and Maria; David (Karen) and their children James (Maddie), Janelle (Nicholas Spizawka) and their children Josie and Benjamin, and Nicole (Riley Fiske) and their son Leo; Karen (Dan Christakos) and their children Shyla and Justin.
Helen was a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. The love and devotion Helen had with her family was very apparent as we said our goodbyes. Nana had a strong faith in the Lord, and we know she is at peace in Heaven.
The family would like to thank Pat and the staff of the Good Shepherd Villa for their loving care of Helen.
