It’s do or die for the Carlton Crusaders this weekend as they prepare for their provincial semifinal matchup.

Carlton is getting set to welcome Regina’s F.W. Johnson Wildcats to Max Clunie Field on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.

Both the Cru and the Wildcats are undefeated on the year en route to their respective league championships, where Carlton defeated Martensville 40-23, and F.W. Johnson downed Thom Collegiate 44-3.

“It’s exciting, bit of an unknown,” said Carlton head coach Lindsay Strachan following their NSFL win last weekend. “We don’t see much out of that Regina league, so we got to kind of figure out what lies ahead. I know they’ve been putting up some lofty scores, winning pretty handily down there so I’m sure they’re a good football team.”

Carlton has won some lopsided games this season, outscoring league opponents 180-23 in five games which was highlighted by massive shutout wins over St. Mary (48-0, 43-0) and Lloydminster (37-0).

Meanwhile, F.W. Johnson has also been a monster on offence, outscoring their league opponents 321-20 across eight games this season, highlighted by a stretch of three games where they didn’t give up a single point, winning 19-0, 63-0, and 30-0.

The winner of the provincial semifinal matchup will advance to the 5A provincial finals where they will face either the Bishop James Mahoney Saints from Saskatoon, or the Central Collegiate Cyclones from Moose Jaw. The provincial final will be played on Nov. 9 in either Saskatoon or Moose Jaw.
