Little Hearts, Little Lungs: Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Radiothon set for Nov. 5 – 6
It’s become Saskatchewan’s largest annual maternal and pediatric fundraiser.
On Nov. 5th and 6th, Pattison Media radio stations from Prince Albert, Melfort, Battlefords and Meadow Lake will join more than 25 other radio stations across the province for the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Radiothon.
The focus this year is ‘Little Hearts, Little Lungs.’ The Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation (JPCHF) said every child and mom-to-be, including unborn babies, undergoes a heart and lung check upon admission to the hospital. Last year, there were 5,330 babies born at JPCH, which is over 100 every week.
According to the foundation, vital sign monitors provide crucial insights into a child’s health, both immediately and over time. Some children require specialized tests like at-home blood pressure monitoring or sleep studies to better understand their heart or lung condition. Fetal heart monitoring can indicate the urgency of delivery for newborns and neonatal intensive care unit patients may require respiratory support for days or weeks.
