June 23, 1933 – October 17, 2024
Omer Ranger, a deeply cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024. Born on June 23, 1933, in Batoche, Saskatchewan to Jean-Baptiste and Adelaide Ranger. Omer held a deep pride in his roots. His devotion to family, community, and faith left an indelible impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Left to carry on his legacy of service are his children Shirley, Robert and Norman and their families.
Omer was a man who embraced joy and loved to laugh. He loved to sing and had a beautiful tenor voice. He also loved to dance and was the best dance partner you could ask for. Together with his beloved wife, Monique, he served in the music ministry at multiple parishes, sharing his passion for faith and song with multiple congregations. His commitment extended far beyond music; he was a dedicated treasurer for several parishes, contributing not only his talents but also his time and resources. Omer’s devotion to Christ and the Virgin Mary shone through in his daily life. He regularly prayed the rosary, a practice he continued despite the devastating effects of dementia. He also devoted countless hours in the forty years of volunteer work for the St. Laurent Shrine.
He began his teaching career in 1953. A gifted educator, Omer spent 39 years inspiring students and colleagues alike in schools across Saskatchewan. Known for his attention to detail, tireless work ethic, and genuine care, he left a lasting impact on those he taught. The majority of his career was spent teaching at Stobart Elementary School in Duck Lake, SK, where he retired in 1993.
In his retirement, Omer continued to enrich the lives of those around him. He was known for his love of a good meal and a delicious dessert, and he shared his joy in baking, gardening, and community service with all who knew him. He was a member of the Duck Lake Legion since 1979, and as past president he offered steadfast leadership and guidance to his fellow members. Whether volunteering for bingos, delivering Meals on Wheels or helping with church services, Omer was always ready to lend a hand to support his community.
Omer’s life was defined by his unwavering faith, boundless generosity, and an enduring love for those around him. His presence will be deeply missed, but he will be warmly remembered by family, friends, and all who were touched by his kindness and dedication.
Omer’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Goodwill Manor for their compassionate care and support during the past number of years. Omer’s Funeral Service will take place at Blessed Sacrament Church in Duck Lake, SK, on November 2, 2024, at 11:00 A.M., followed by his burial at the St. Laurent Shrine Cemetery.
