In Loving Memory
Phyllis Karina Thorimbert (nee Braaten)
1930 – 2024
With heavy hearts the family of Phyllis Thorimbert announce her passing on October 15, 2024 at the age of 94.
Phyllis Karina Thorimbert (nee Braaten) was born on June 7, 1930 to Gertrude and Charlie Braaten, and lived her childhood years on a farm in Bonnie Hill near Birch Hills, Saskatchewan. She enjoyed her early years growing up with her older sister Olive and her younger siblings Lois and Wayne. They remained close all through the years. Phyllis, or “Toots”, as she was affectionately called by many close to her, completed a business course in Prince Albert and worked as a stenographer briefly, even venturing to Vancouver as a young adult to work for BCBell. Phyllis would become the bookkeeper for the family business until she and Victor retired.
She met her love and partner for life, Victor Thorimbert, in Fenton, SK. They were married on June 6, 1951, and had 67 wonderful years together! They lived briefly in Leslie and St. Louis before settling in Prince Albert for over 60 years. They started a family right away and were blessed with 5 children together- Terry (Jane), Craig (Brenda), Jeff (Dawn), Grant (Cyndy), and Vonda (Darryl). Twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren were added to the family and were the pride and joy of Victor and Phyllis! Kerri (Corey), Mandy (Darcy) and Warren from Craig and Brenda; Michael, Lindsay (Connie), Donovan (Susie), Lana (Roshni) from Terry and Jane; Beth (Mike), Kim (Jake) and Alan, from Grant and Cyndy; and Devon (Catarina) and Mark (Jasmine) from Vonda and Darryl. Quinne, Kaden, Parker, Morgan, Ryker, Locket, Elsie, and Beckett will miss their great grandma!
For the majority of her years, Phyllis ran the family home as they raised their five children. Although she was a quiet lady, those close to her often saw the silly side of her with her quick wit and fun sense of humour! Family was her main focus and she devoted herself to caring for her children and grandchildren! Many a family gathering included large meals together and lots of laughter! Her generous heart would gladly provide for her loved ones! She loved to play games – Phase 10, Dominoes, and Uno were among her favourites. It was a daily ritual for her to complete the crossword puzzles in the PA Herald. With four sons, it’s no surprise that she was an avid sports fan with the Blue Jays, Riders and various curling teams among her favourites.
As Phyllis and Victor entered their retirement years, they would head south to Texas or Arizona in the winter months to enjoy sunshine and visits with friends and family! Although they loved their months away, Phyllis was always happy to head home and be with her family again! Nothing made her happier than when she could have her family together!
Victor and Phyllis attended the PA Free Methodist church for many decades, and they made many dear friendships in their church family. Phyllis would often be found in the background, doing dishes, or other chores to help out. It is a comfort to know that she has gone to be with her Heavenly Father, and that she is reunited with so many of her dear loved ones- Victor, Terry, Craig, Warren, Nathan, Olive, Gertrude and Charlie! She will be greatly missed by those who remain.
Special thanks to the many caregivers in Porteous Lodge who gave her wonderful care in her three years there! The family is extremely grateful.
