Mintos fall to Blazers as special teams struggle
The power play and penalty kill proved to be the difference maker in the Prince Albert Mintos 5-2 loss on Tuesday to the Saskatoon Blazers at the SaskTel Centre.
A total of 28 penalty minutes were handed out between the two clubs, with the Mintos being awarded six power play opportunities while the Blazers earned seven. P.A. failed to capitalize on their chances while Saskatoon made the most, managing two man advantage tallies along with a shorthanded marker in the second period.
Blake Chorney cashed in on either power play for the Blazers and Shaan Basran collected the goal on the P.K., meanwhile Jeremy Wehrens and Cooper Ernewein also found the back of the net in the win. Prince Albert Raiders prospect Eric Grandberg led the way with two helpers and Ernewein also managed an assist along with Will Degagne.
For the Mintos, Connor Howe and Jordon Abrametz lit the lamp while Kelan Simmonds and Carter Cole were the assist getters.
