Adjourned case for care home employee accused of abuse against residents

Oct 7, 2024 | 3:22 PM

The case of Jaclyn Elias was briefly discussed in North Battleford Provincial Court Monday afternoon before being adjourned to Oct. 21.

The 36-year-old from Wilkie was denied legal aid to help assist her in the court process. Elias is facing numerous charges after police investigated reports of physical and sexual assaults at the group care home facility where she worked.

Between January 2023 and February 2024, at least four adult residents of the facility were either assaulted, sexually abused or threatened by a female staff member, according to RCMP.

Elias was arrested on Feb. 29 and is charged with four counts of assault, three counts of sexual assault, one count of sexual assault with a weapon, and one count of uttering threats.

Elias, who did not appear in court herself, is waiting on a letter from legal aid to prove she was rejected. According to the Legal Aid Saskatchewan website, staff conduct a financial test that looks at assets and income to determine if someone is eligible for financial aid.
