Rodney Read
1963 ~ 2024
It is with deep sadness that the family of Rodney Glenn Read announces his passing on October 3, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on July 4, 1963, to Frederick and Elaine Read, Rod was an immensely proud father and a beloved grandfather whose life was defined by his unwavering love for his family.
Rod’s passion for the outdoors, including golfing, camping, and fishing, created countless joyful memories with family and friends that will be treasured forever. He dedicated seventeen years to his role as a Process Operator at Weyerhaeuser before moving to Alberta, where he worked for Syncrude and Northwest Refineries. After retiring in 2021, Rod devoted his time to golfing, groundskeeping at Kachurs Golf Course, and cherishing every moment with his eight grandchildren.
He will be remembered for his caring heart, his “cheezie” jokes, and his unshakeable loyalty to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Rod is profoundly missed by his children, Marcus, Molly, and Emily; and his eight grandchildren, Hiro, Ellie, Artie, Austin, Charlie, Daisy, Graham, and Nora.
Rod is also survived by his sisters, Wanda (Dave Witcombe), Donna (Bobby Harris), Debbie (Neil Harris), Sherry (Jerry Anderson), Buffi (Paul Levac); also his brothers, Jerry Read and Tim Read (Rosie Read). Rod was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Elaine Read; and brothers, Robby and John Read.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Rose Garden Hospice for their kindness, patience, and witty humour during Rod’s final weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rose Garden Hospice in Prince Albert. In keeping with Rodney’s wishes no funeral service will be held.
