1935 – 2024
Harry John Johnson was born in Kinistino, SK December 29, 1935. He passed away October 1, 2024, in peace and dignity at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert.
Harry is survived by his wife Maria Isabel Johnson; and Louisa Johnson, Mayella and Wendel MacGregor and their children Earl, Halvor and Christina; and extended family, Maria Isabel’s aunt and Mayella’s mother (Bersaba Ramirez) “Aunt Chavita”; brothers-in-law Chuy (wife Susana) Lopez, Francis (wife Vita) Lopez and family; sister Diana Roden; and niece Marjorie Roden.
He was predeceased by his grandpa Halvor “Henry” Johnson; parents Berent Louis and Louis Mary Johnson; and Maria Isabel’s parents Juan and Rosalina Lopez.
Harry attended Emanuel College at the U of S in the 1950’s. While he decided not to become a priest, he did teach school at various locations in Saskatchewan. He later worked at North Park Centre in the 1960’s until the center closed in 1987. He worked as a group activity aid supervisor and was respected by many staff. He was elected as union president at this center and served many staff with honesty and integrity.
After he retired from North Park, he farmed full time on the land given to him by his parents and also land purchased in Lily Plain located outside of Prince Albert.
He devoted himself to his family and friends. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and was known for his kindness.
He enjoyed decent health until he was diagnosed with cancer at the age of eighty. This disease was kept under control by chemo medication, but it left him susceptible to infection. He caught covid-19 and this weakened his body. Harry recovered from covid-19, but his lungs and other main organs sustained a lot of damage. His body succumbed to the physical complications left by this illness.
Harry was a loving dependable husband and father. He was also a great friend to those who knew him, and he will be missed.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2pm on Monday, October 7, 2024, at the Sacred Heart Cathedral (1401 4th Ave West, Prince Albert, SK S6V 5H1)
