Summary:
The Early Years Coordinator is a team player and oversees all operations concerning the Children’s Education and Development activities within the Women’s Safe Shelter. The Candidate demonstrates skills in leadership, knowledge of child growth, development and behaviours, knowledge of crisis management and food preparation and supplies management. This position demands outstanding written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills and experience working with child victims of interpersonal violence.
Duties
Client Care
- Provide children activities
- Facilitate in-house recreation, crafts and educational program
- As part of the Support Team
- Take an active role to follow the case plan
- Provide structure, guidance, and a safe home-like environment
- Assess, listen, support, validate and document interaction
- Provide transportation as required
- Referrals and advocating
- Liaise with schools
Daily Operations
- Ensure adequate supplies are maintained with regard to household, crafts and recreation
- Shop for supplies as required
- Perform household/yard cleaning as required
- Prepare meals as required
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and upkeep (gas and oil)
- Ensure donations are recorded, sorted and washed prior to storage
Expectations
- Follow a strict code of confidentiality at all times
- Ensure safety, security and protection of the children
- Adhere to agency policies and procedures
- Work independently and in a team atmosphere, in accordance to the agency philosophy, mission and goals
- Complete administrative documentation related to position duties, including outcome measurements, statistics, report writing, timesheets, and expense claims
- Maintain professional and ethical boundaries
- Be non-judgmental, respectful, empathetic to clients’ needs, and a healthy role model
- Participate in community awareness initiatives and training as directed by the Executive Director
- Prepare Menu and Grocery order following Canada Food Guide, maintaining supplies within budget.
- Acts in Lead Hand Role for Residential Services Shelter Manager
- Manage crisis situations in Manager’s absence.
- Complete required valid training within 30 days of hire:
- Crisis Line
- CPR/First Aid
- Safe Food Handling Certificate/ WHMIS
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education, Youth Care field or a combination of education and experience required to fulfill the duties above
- Knowledge of child growth, development and behaviors
- Crisis management skills are an asset
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, nights and weekends
- Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks
- Demonstrate knowledge of and empathy for victims of interpersonal violence
- Preference will be given to individual living within the service area of North East Outreach and Support Services Inc.
- Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license
- Must be prepared to provide a criminal records check, vulnerable persons check
Salary Range: $20.60 – $26.94 hourly range; salary range $37,492.00 – $49,030.80 per annum.
35 hour work week, pension and benefits following successful 3 month probation.
