Prince Albert ‘thriving with arts and culture opportunities’

More than 20 free events are being offered over an upcoming three-week arts and culture celebration in Prince Albert starting Sept. 20.

Culture Days has become the largest cultural event in Canada, attracting an estimated two million participants to thousands of free activities and performances.

In Prince Albert, those events will include a Dakota History Walk and Talk with Dr Leo J. Omani. It’s being hosted at the Historical Museum and Little Red River Park on Sept. 21.

The next day, families are invited for an afternoon of creating with paint, beads, and fabric guided by artist Harmony Johnson-Harder.

The Tapestrama Cultural Festival starts Sept. 28 and exemplifies the diversity, culture and talent in the city. It’s held at Carlton Comprehensive High School and features food booths.

“The city of Prince Albert is thriving with arts and culture opportunities and we recognize their value for our enjoyment, mental health, and connection to community,” said Tia Furstenberg, arts and cultural coordinator for the city. “Of the many arts and culture opportunities that organizations and artists provide all year long for our community, Culture Days allows us to offer some free to try.”

Public transit will be free for Culture Days on Friday, Sept. 21 and Saturday, Sept. 22.

In October, there are several other events including an evening of the ‘Sights, Sounds and Tastes of Africa.’ Art programs at the Margo Fournier Arts Centre include fall pottery for youth and journaling sessions. For a full list of events, click here.

Culture Days is coordinated by a local committee and funded by SaskCulture through Saskatchewan Lotteries, the Municipal Cultural Action Plan (City of Prince Albert), and the organizations and their funding partners hosting events.
