Chief and council at Beardy’s and Okemasis Cree Nation are asking residents to stay indoors as RCMP look for Sundance Okemaysim and what they refer to as his ‘accomplices’.

The notice was issued around 4:30 pm on Sept. 11.

“These individuals pose a potential threat to our community’s safety. If you are harbouring these individuals in the band unit in which you reside, you will be subject to the provisions contained in the Housing Policy of the BOCN,” reads the notice.

Band administration said that people should not open the door for anyone they don’t know and that doors and windows should remain locked.

Sheltering in place is not required and the police have not asked for it. The notice is for collective safety.

In connection with the search for Okemaysim – police and administration are asking people to watch for a black Harley Davidson Ford truck or a white Ford F-350 Super Duty (associated plate number is 332 MFD) and carrying a slip tank, to call 911, 306-232-6400 or 310-RCMP.

paNOW has been informed by a community member that two people share the name of Sundance Okemaysim. The other Okemaysim was arrested in late July along with Kevin Keenatch and both were charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Melissa Duquette in Saskatoon.

Previously, he also faced serious charges in connection with the death of an inmate at the Sask. Pen during a riot in 2018.

Saskatoon Police were also looking for 28-year-old Kendall Ameech of Kinistin First Nation in connection with Duquette’s death as well.

Band offices will remain open, but no one will be allowed in without an appointment.

Residents are asked to be vigilant and report any crime or suspicious activity, keep homes and vehicles locked and not harbour any people who are suspected of criminal activity.

All suspicious activity should be reported to police before it hits social media.

A community safety meeting is scheduled this evening at the Veteran’s Hall at 6:00 pm.
