Team White earns big win over Team Green to wrap Raiders camp

Sep 2, 2024 | 3:27 PM

The Prince Albert Raiders 2024-25 Camp has officially ended following the annual Green vs. White game, with Team White coming away with the 8-4 victory. According to Head Coach Jeff Truitt, the level of competition for the few spots left in the Raiders lineup was what he expected to see.

“I like the pace. I like the energy. There was compete out there and you can tell that there are guys that want to take the next step and that’s what this is all about. You go through some of these guys teams and a lot of the roster guys were out, but we want to inject some older guys in this game just to create that speed and that intensity and I think the younger kids really did a great job to get them up to the pace we need.”

Truitt offered his thoughts on camp below after the game recap.

Game Recap

Brendan Dube started the game off early when he managed to steal the puck away at centre and get free for a breakaway, scoring fivehole just 56 seconds in to put Team Green ahead.

After two failed powerplays from Team Green, Team White would tie things up at the end of the period. At the 18:54 mark, Daxon Rudolph would send a pass ahead for Kyle Obobaifo, and he’d take the puck down the left side before sending a pass out from behind the goal line, setting up Ben Harvey for a one-timer to score.

After 1

Green 1 – 1 White, shots 14-9 Green.

It took 23 seconds for Team White to take the lead in the second. The defenceman Brock Cripps would enter the zone through the middle of the ice and the puck would get knocked off his stick directly to Riley Boychuk, and he’d fire to score with assists from Cripps and Harvey.

At the 3:45 mark, Team Green would tie the game on a beautiful goal from Brendan Dube for his second. Ty Meunier would get a shot on goal that would cause a scramble, and Dube would go between the legs on the goal line so he could flip the puck over the pad of Steele Bass.

Team White would get the lead back at 9:03 off a faceoff. After an icing, a scramble faceoff resulted. Harrison Lodewyk, Luke Moroz, and Tyler Wamboldt would all get a touch of the puck before Wamboldt was able to get a clear look at the net to score while the other two picked up assists.

After the goal, Steele Bass and Cooper Anderson would switch out of the net for the rest of the game. Bass stopped 16 of the 18 shots he faced in the Team White goal, while Anderson stopped 13 of 16 in the Team Green net.

After 2

Green 2 – 3 White, shots 20-20

Again the first minute of a period would see a team score when Team Green tied it up. Ryland Molde would start the breakout with a pass to Ty Meunier, and he’d drop the puck back to Cole Peardon with a wrist shot from the outside of the slot to tie it at three just 19 seconds in.

At the 2:57 mark, Team White would score to take the lead and from there they wouldn’t look back. Luke Moroz would score on a weaving entry after the feed from Riley Boychuk.

Then we’d see Ryland Molde and Tyler Wamboldt both get into a dust up, and that would cause a 4-on-4 for a full 2:00 where Team White would score three times.

The first goal came from Daxon Rudolph cutting in from the point and firing a wrist shot in from the slot. Next, Riley Boychuk would score his second of the game on an unassisted breakaway effort after stripping the puck from Team Green at his own blue line. The 4-on-4 onslaught from Team White finished with another Obobaifo setup when he found Connor Howe in front of the net alone for the wrist shot all before the first 5:05 of the period.

Team Green would get one back at the 16:17 mark. Jonah Sivertson would enter the zone down the left side of the ice, taking a hard hit on the blueline but staying on his feet before he cut to the middle of the ice and wired a wrist shot over the blocker.

With less than a minute left, Team White added one more on a feed from behind the net from Luke Moroz in front to Wamboldt for his second of the game.

Chase Kettles in the Team Green net stopped 9 of 14 shots faced, while Jaden Blanchette in goal for Team White stopped 9 of 11.

The game finished off a competitive camp that saw a lot of players give themselves a chance at the Raiders lineup. With that said, Truitt was not surprised by the level of compete seen during camp because of the quality of the players the team brought in.

“You know the kids coming in and you know that obviously we’re turning guys. It’s not what surprised me, it was an expectation that these guys have taken a step and we what know we went through last year and to take it a step up, another year has another high compete level has to get to. And I really like our group right now, I really like the way that they’ve stepped up here and have progressed.”

One player that had a lot of eyes on him throughout the weekend was Brock Cripps, the second overall pick in last year’s WHL Bantam Draft. Cripps had to face Brendan Dube one on one multiple times during the Green vs White game, and Truitt was impressed with the way the 15 year old handled himself against the older competition throughout the entire camp.

“I really liked him, even yesterday and the day before, Mrsic comes down on him and he handled him pretty well and same with Dube. He’s well ahead of the curve, he’s got a great future, he’s poised with the puck, he communicates, he’s never really in a bad position, he’s got a lot of great assets, a lot of great tools that we’re excited about.”

Preseason is set to start on Wednesday as the Raiders take on the Saskatoon Blades in Prince Albert.
