Jail time for man guilty in Black Lake death

The man who was found guilty of aggravated assault in connection with the death of Arley Cook in Black Lake will spend some time in jail.

Jerrick Stalthanee was given a three-year sentence for his role in how Cook died following a night of drinking in Black Lake in December 2021.

Justice Mechisnick said he could not be certain how much the fact that Cook had been drinking factored into his death. A witness said that he had woken to see Stalthanee hitting Cook over the head multiple times but the victim was able to walk to his own home afterwards. He was later found deceased.

Mechisnick found Stalthanee guilty of aggravated assault rather than the manslaughter charge he had been tried on.
