Rediscovering her love for the sport of racquetbal, Prince Albert’s Terra Cowan has proven she can go toe -to-toe with the best in the world.

Cowan competed last weekend at the World Senior Racquetball Championships in Chicago, and won gold in the Ladies 50-55 Age Division. She also claimed silver in the overall combined Ladies Division. She told paNOW going in she had no expectations and just wanted to see how she would fare against women her own age.

“I’m really excited with my results. I feel like I exceeded my expectations,” she said.

This was the 38th Championships hosted by the International Racquetball Association and the National Masters Racquetball Association. There were 176 participants from seven countries including Canada, Chile, Columbia, Guatemala, Ireland, Mexico, and the United States.

“The energy was pretty amazing,” Cowan noted about her experience, and acknowledged she’s already thinking about returning next year.

While this was Cowan’s first time competing as a senior at world’s, she had been there previously at the junior level, before putting the racket down for 25 years. However in the past year, she started playing recreation, and travelled to some provincial and national tournaments.

“I was just kinda missing the sport and wanted to get some exercise,” she explained.

When she’s not breaking a sweat on the racquetball court, Cowan also trains out of Fitness for 10.
