Former WWE/TNA star prepares to drop the low down on Sask.

The first man to hold the WWE’s European and Intercontinental Championships at the same time is coming to Saskatchewan.

D’Lo Brown will be a part of Canadian Wrestling Elite’s (CWE) upcoming tour, which includes stops in Prince Albert, Saskatoon, and Regina.

Reflecting back on July, 1999, when he faced and beat Jeff Jarrett for the Intercontinental title, just days after winning the European Championship, Brown said it was all a big shock.

“Being the first guy to hold both those titles simultaneously was definitely a big pat on the back from the company. It was one of those moments like wow this is really happening, and you are becoming a name in this business,” he said.

After returning to his hotel room later, Brown recalled laying both titles on the bed, and just sitting there for the next hour, just staring at them and thinking about all the guys who previously held the titles and the fact he was the first one to hold both.

“It just left me speechless. Even to this day, it’s one of my greatest moments in wrestling.”

The only other men to accomplish the feat were Jeff Jarrett, Kurt Angle, and Rob Van Dam.

During his time in the WWE, Brown held the European Championship four times and the Intercontinental title once. Brown is also remembered by many fans as one the founding members of the original Nation of Domination, which also included Ron Simmons, Savio Vega, and Crush.

Some internal differences led to the faction splitting and the recruitment of new members over time, in the likes of The Rock, Mark Henry, Ahmed Johnson, Kama (The Godfather), and Owen Hart.

“It was magical, like a dream I didn’t want to wake up from,” Brown recalled, adding the team’s direction came from Simmons.

It was also during this time when Brown developed his now famous swagger and head bobble. He explained he felt the need to separate himself from everyone else on the roster.

“I was a good wrestler but I was just one of many and I needed something for people to start paying attention to me,” he said.

Following his stint in WWE, Brown spent some time in TNA and tagged with the “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles. Brown recalled his best times with Styles, were not in the ring, but rather the time they spent bonding backstage and during long car rides.

“I could look at him and I was like he’s gonna be the guy, so it was my duty to try and impart as much knowledge I had gained, the few years I had been in the business and help him on his way and he was just like a sponge to water,” Brown said.

Noting the success Styles has had, Brown said to this day he still holds a lot of respect for his friend and considers Styles one of the best wrestlers ever to step into the ring.

Brown’s finishing move, a variation of the frog splash, is called the Lo-Down.

Throughout the years, a number of different wrestlers have used the move including Eddie Guerrero and Rob Van Dam. Brown, who wore a chest protector as he flew off the top rope, explained his variation of the move was actually inspired by Guerrero’s former tag partner when they wrestled as Los Gringos in AAA wrestling.

“I’ve heard people compare which one is better, and I’m just happy to be in the conversation,” Brown said.

The event in Prince Albert takes place July 15th at Plaza 88. The doors open at 6:30 p.m., and matches start at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are still available at Colette Portamedic Services (#3-496 Marquis Rd.) or can be purchased online at cwetickets.com. Confirming he will be signing autographs and posing for pictures, Brown would not say whether he plans to step inside the ring.

“You never know what shenanigans I might get up to. That’s just the beauty of pro wrestling. When you come to a show, you never know what’s gonna happen,” he said.
