Northern Bears looking to fill roles within club, seeking applicants and billets

The Mann-Northway Northern Bears are looking for new members to join their team and fill some vacant roles within the organization.

The club has been taking to social media over the last couple of weeks, seeking applicants for three different positions ahead of the upcoming hockey season.

The roles that need to be filled include manager, trainer and assistant coach.

Northern Bears President Laurie Huet said the search for potential candidates is going well.

“For the coaching position, we’ve had a few applicants come in. We haven’t had any sort of official meetings or interviews yet,” she explained. “As for the board of directors, we’ve had some people come across with some interest, so it’s been good.”

“With regards to our coaching staff, our preference is a female coach because we are a female hockey club,” she added. “But right now, anyone with knowledge and the experience who wants to come forward is greatly appreciated.”

The staff wasn’t the only thing that has changed a bit this offseason as new players are set to don the Black and Orange next season with some coming from out of town, meaning the club is also searching for billet homes.

Huet said the team had a booth set up at the Street Fair two weeks ago advertising for billet homes, which worked great.

“It was a huge success. We had a number of people that reached out to us and took some interest,” she said, adding that her family has been billets for around a decade. “Billeting is a great experience, I have three daughters and it was great for my kids and my family.”

Anyone interested in joining the Northern Bears staff, or looking to become a billet, can call or email the team using the info given in their social media posts.

The Northern Bears will host a camp in August ahead of the season, which starts in the fall.
