The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety, Saskatchewan Marshals Service (SMS) will help support the ministry’s vision that all people in Saskatchewan live in safe communities.
The newly created Saskatchewan Marshals Service (SMS) is a police service with jurisdiction throughout Saskatchewan. The SMS will focus on provincial policing priorities including but not limited to gangs, illegal weapons and drugs, along with apprehending prolific and high-risk offenders and wanted individuals that pose a public safety risk.
The Opportunity
The Ministry is seeking two highly experienced and forward-thinking law enforcement leaders to join the Saskatchewan Marshals Service as Superintendents. The Superintendent position has managerial oversite of the operational activities of an enforcement branch composed of three Inspectors and 30 Marshals.
The new SMS will provide enhanced law enforcement presence across Saskatchewan, supporting and assisting the RCMP, First Nations Police, municipal police services and the Provincial Protective Services. This includes working within a larger ministry management team and with policing partners to:
- Detect, disrupt and deter criminal activity primarily in rural and remote areas, focusing on higher crime locations throughout the province, through highly visible and intelligence-led police operations;
- Locate and apprehend high-risk and prolific offenders and those wanted by the justice system;
- Enforce federal and provincial statutes;
- Conduct proactive enforcement actions and investigations related to farming and agriculture such as cattle, crop, metal and farm chemical thefts, and trespassing that may result in crop damage; and
- Provide emergency and specialized support or assistance to Saskatchewan police services or other law enforcement agencies when requested.
The successful candidate will:
- Provide direction, leadership, and guidance, ensuring effective and efficient operations;
- Ensure a high degree of professionalism and integrity within the daily interactions of the SMS with the public, partners, and other law enforcement agencies;
- Lead strategic and tactical planning activities for enforcement operations, including both short term and long-term actions;
- Ensure appropriate stewardship is in place for all assets internal to the SMS including but not limited to computer technologies; vehicles, weapons, office equipment and accommodation;
- Develop and implement provincial-wide policies, standard operational procedures, and compliance with provincial and federal legislation with respect to operations.
Ideal Candidate

Typically, the knowledge, and experience required for success in this position would be obtained through a Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in police sciences, criminal justice, public administration or a related field combined with 15 or more years of experience in policing operations, with at least 5 years or more in a supervisor capacity.

Candidates must be prepared to work outside normal hours and may need to travel anywhere within Saskatchewan on occasion. Some travel outside of Saskatchewan may be required.
Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and a salary supplement may be available.
Both positions are headquartered in Prince Albert.
Prior to being hired, you will be required to complete and/or be required to:
- Enhanced security screening process and obtain and maintain security clearance as a condition of employment;
- Background checks including a review of previous law enforcement service history and disciplinary history will be considered;
- Obtain and maintain qualification in the use of force and firearms consistent with the Saskatchewan Police College standard;
- Wear a uniform and carry intervention equipment where appropriate and consistent with the direction or policy of the SMS;
- Produce a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 driver’s license;
- Produce a driver’s abstract obtained within the previous three months which demonstrates a safe and responsible driving record;
- May be asked to have a satisfactory psychological assessment based on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2).
- Meet medical and physical requirements to be a police officer in Saskatchewan.
