Richard Stieb
1934 – 2024
Richard Stieb, age 90, passed away peacefully June 6, 2024 in Prince Albert, SK with his family by his side.
Richard was born March 23, 1934 in the Brightholme district to Alphonse and Suzanna Stieb. He attended Mount Teviot School from grades one to ten, at which time he left to help his dad farm. Later, Richard found his career at Canada Post and retired after over 34 years of service. He then enjoyed five summers at Davin Lake (Northern Sask) looking after a fishing lodge.
Richard was very active in many organizations that took him all over Saskatchewan and Canada, and made him many lifelong friends. He was President of both the PA Wildlife Federation and Sask Wildlife Federation, he was on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Wildlife Federation and Ducks Unlimited, and spent many days and hours working with Fisheries and Oceans.
He loved to hunt and fish with his wife and friends. Richard and Vi loved to travel and did most of it with a canoe and tent. Travels took them all over Canada from coast to coast. Their favourite was Northern Canada and Alaska. Richard said the best was the trips to Churchill, MB to see the Polar Bears and Beluga Whales. Also, to BC to see the whales and to fish for Salmon. They also enjoyed international trips to Scotland, Germany, Rome, and many more places.
Richard is survived by: his wife, Viola, of 68 years; his son Glen; daughter-in-law Joan; granddaughters Jana (Jeff) and Hayley (Josh); four great-grandchildren; and his best dog Ellie.
He is predeceased by: his parents Alphonse and Suzanna Stieb; step-father Adolf Kriese; sons Keith and Terry; his brother Bill (Bernice); and his sister Elenore (Bill).
Richard’s wishes were to have no funeral or services. He will be laid to rest next to his sons on his happy hunting grounds.
