Leona Horychun – 1936 to 2024
Leona Horychun (nee Casavant) of Prince Albert passed away peacefully surrounded by her children at Rose Garden Hospice on Wednesday March 27th ,2024 at the age of 87. She was born April 21st ,1936 in Marcelin, Saskatchewan to Joseph and Georgina Casavant. Leona grew up and attended school in Marcelin. After graduating she moved to Prince Albert where she met Boris while working at the Princess Café. Leona and Boris were married in Kitimat, B.C. and later returned to Prince Albert where they lived and raised their children, Steve, Donna, Larry, Darrell and Pat.
Leona was deeply devoted to and cherished her husband and children. She was a special person who cared for foster children and supported unwed mothers. All this while she worked to achieve her goal of becoming a nurse. Leona graduated in 1971 with a CNA certificate which she was extremely proud of and soon obtained a position at the Holy Family Hospital.
Leona and Boris purchased the family farm and worked side by side, Leona also continued to work in Prince Albert as a CNA. In 1975 they built a new home in Honeymoon where they lived until they retired to Kelowna, B.C. After enjoying many years in the Okanogan Leona suffered a stroke and they returned to Prince Albert where she lived until her passing.
Leona will be lovingly remembered by her children Steve (Beth Malott), Donna (Blaine Mindiuk), Larry, Darrell (Pam Telfer) and Pat (Randy Holinaty). Her grandchildren Christine (Dan) Shannon (Kyle) Mitchell (Megan), and Taylor. Her great grandchildren; Austin, Kalea, Riley, Max, Jake, Liam, and Lucas. Her great great grandchild Carson. Her brothers Andrew and Eugene Casavant. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Leona was predeceased by her loving husband Boris, grandson Kirk, parents Joseph and Georgina (Brunet) Casavant, brothers Leon, Paul, Lucien, Wilf and her sisters Irene, Lea and Flo.
We would like to thank all the remarkable staff at Prince Albert Home Care and Rose Garden Hospice for everything they did for Leona.

A prayer service for Leona will be on Monday April 1, 2024 7PM @ Mackenzie Chapel 130 9th St East Prince Albert, SK. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday April 2, 2024 10AM @ Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church 684 3rd Ave East Prince Albert, SK
