PACE cheerleading team wins bronze at provincials

The Prince Albert Cheer Explosion (PACE) All-Star cheerleading team ended its season with a bang.

The Saskatchewan Cheerleading Association Provincials were held last weekend in Saskatoon and PACE’s U12 squad finished third. Coach Sandra Kirtzinger was very proud of the team.

“You know their goals are always to hit zero and try to place in the top three and they achieved their goals,” she said.

The term hitting zero refers to no deductions, meaning no stumbles or falls. Even more impressive is the fact the small PACE squad competes against teams that have twice as many members.

The routine was choreographed last September. (Submitted photo)

Also competing in Saskatoon was the U6 squad but they do not get scored, and Kirtzinger noted they look up to the older team.

“There’s five on the U6 team and three of them have older sisters on the U12 team so it’s definitely a sport that intrigues the little ones also,” she said.

In January, PACE attended the Cold Snap cheer and dance competition in Edmonton. The U12 Blast squad placed first and the U16 Surge squad finish fourth.

While the team now gets a well deserved rest, they will start up again at the end of August and Kirtzinger is tossing around the idea of a bring a friend night to possibly boost membership.

“We’ve proven to ourselves that it doesn’t really matter the size of the team, they are comparable to other teams across the province,” Kirtzinger said.
