Five illegal guns, drugs and cash seized in Pelican Narrows

In a series of busts starting March 8 and continuing until March 11, RCMP from Pelican Narrows seized five illegal guns, 21 grams of meth, 12 grams of cocaine and a sum of cash.

On March 8, police responded to reports of gunshots being fired by a group of people who then fled.

One man who ran away was seen throwing something while he was running. When officers caught him, he was carrying ammunition, which officers then seized.

A police dog was used to find the tossed item, which turned out to be a restricted gun.

A 20-year-old man from Pelican Narrows is now facing several gun related charges.

On March 8-9, a second report of gunshots fired inside a home ended up with officers finding and seizing two restricted weapons.

A 28-year-old man was charged with weapons trafficking and several other gun offences.

While checking a home on March 9 as part of a routine check to make sure release conditions were being followed, police found more ammunition, 20 grams of meth and cocaine at a home.

A 24-year-old woman was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and having property obtained by crime.

On March 10, police responded to another call of a man being chased down a residential in Pelican Narrows by two people who were shooting a gun at him.

While chasing the suspects, the gun was seen by officers as it was thrown behind a home. It was later found by the police dog,

A 23-year-old suspect and an unnamed youth face multiple gun charges, including having a restricted firearm.

The fifth gun was found by police while searching for a wanted person at a home. The accused criminal can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

In February, community leaders issued a plea for help, saying crime and violence have reached dire levels.

They had issued a State of Emergency in 2023 as a response to escalating criminal activity.

One councillor said that gunshots can be heard in the community every day and night and that drive-by shootings are increasingly common.
