Three decades of work and effort meant that local business executive Trevor Ives left behind a large legacy of success when he passed away last October.

Much of that success is attached to the 27 years he spent with the Peter Ballantyne Group of Companies and on Monday, March 11, his widow Shauna, accepted the Chamber of Commerce Legacy Award, sponsored by Scotia Bank, on his behalf.

“He would be so proud of this award. First, he would want to acknowledge the Prince Albert Grand Council and their business arm, their Business Development Corp. for giving him his start and showing him the ropes of First Nation’s business development,” she said.

“He would definitely want to acknowledge Peter Ballantyne Group of Companies where he spent 27 years developing his skills. They were so supportive and I know he was grateful for that opportunity.”

During his tenure, Trevor oversaw the start of three Petro Canada franchises, a Tim Hortons, four Super 8 franchises and an investment in JNE Welding, which is recognized under Canada’s Best Managed Companies program.

He also gave of his time to various corporate boards and spent years volunteering on the National Board of Directors for Indigenous Works Canada.

Trevor died of myeloma on October 30, 2023, but left behind many of his talents and values behind in his children.

Kyra Ives said that despite not seeing a path in business ahead for her, she learned a lot from her father, as did her brother.

“I will say that that he was just an exceptional role model as a father and as a person and really instilled values of hard work and dedication to myself and my family, and the importance of community and loyalty. So I’m definitely going to follow in his footsteps in terms of the values and how he’s acted as a leader to both of us,” she said.
